If you’re thinking about becoming a truck driver with Eagle Logistics, we applaud you! But we also believe it’s our duty to let you know that the truck driving lifestyle can be kind of stressful sometimes. However, don’t let that deter you from pursuing a trucking career - because there are several ways to combat the stress that comes along with the job. What are the ways? We’re about to tell you right here, right now.

Follow a Healthy Diet

You know what they say - sound body, sound mind. Following a healthy diet while you’re out on the road is a great way to keep stress at bay. That’s because what you put in your body can have an impact on your stress levels. Chances are, if you eat heavy, unhealthy foods, you won’t feel comfortable while driving. And that will make you stressed. But, if you focus on eating fruits, vegetables, salads, and other healthy meals, then you won’t feel bogged down!

Connect with Family & Friends

Being out on the road can be lonely at times. That’s why it’s important to stay connected with your family and friends. Of course, we always recommend spending time with your loved ones during your home time, but you can easily keep in touch through technology such as video calls via your cell phone! Sometimes just hearing a voice or seeing a smile from someone you love is enough to melt your stress away.

Move When You Can

You know how people like to go to the gym to “blow off steam?” A great way to help with truck driver stress is to move as much as possible. This can be done through stretching at rest stops, taking walks, and even doing other convenient exercises that will help clear your mind and keep you in shape.

Listen to Something

Music is a universal language, and is also a wonderful tool for relieving truck driver stress. When you’re feeling agitated, upset, or just down right stressed out, try putting on your favorite playlist or album. Having a soundtrack while you’re driving can help pass time and put a smile on your face.

If you’re not up to listening to music, try a podcast or audiobook. There are tons of different books and podcasts available online, so we’re positive you’ll find something you’ll like!

Get Your Z’s

Ah, yes; there’s nothing better than a good night’s sleep. As a truck driver, it’s extremely important for you to get good sleep while you’re out on the road, and also while you’re at home. Getting the right amount of sleep will not only help you stay awake naturally without the aid of energy drinks, but it will also prevent you from feeling stressed out due to being tired.

Stress Relief Exercises & Tools

Of course, learning how to breathe is a key way to combating stress while you’re out on the road. Breathing exercises are wonderful because they’re easy and they’re convenient. You can perform breathing exercises while in your truck, or even while you’re resting.

In addition to breathing exercises, there are several tools that are awesome for dealing with stress. The classic stress ball is always a good choice, but you may also want to invest in other items such as a cooling towel and fidget toys.

So, if you’re dealing with truck driver stress, we hope that our suggestions can help! As always, if you’re interested in working with us at Eagle Logistics, be sure to visit our career page or contact us with any questions you may have.
